Everyone knows that prevention is always better than the cure, however you should also know that prevention is more affordable; than the cure. 

Having a regular visit with the dentist every 6 months to have a scale and clean (removal of plaque and calculus) to make sure the gums stay healthy and to diagnose any problems that may occur in the future.

Using an electric toothbrush is also an effective preventative as it is more powerful than the normal manual brush and it also has a smaller head to allow more access to the back of the mouth which allows for more removal of plaque, the more plaque removed the lesser chance there is of developing teeth cavities and the healthier the gums are, as well as giving you a fresher breathe.

Even with good brushing teeth cavities can form between the teeth so it is essential to clean these areas thoroughly. To do so you can use an Air Floss or similar which produces a jet of air and water (or mouth wash if preferred) to flush in between the teeth and remove any plaque. another way is to use various inter dental brushes similar to Piksters or dental floss.

Even though popular toothpaste brands are sufficient for most people, sometimes your dentist can recommend a special toothpaste to cater to your specific needs. For patients who have a high risk for dental cavities, you might be recommended to use Colgate Neutrafluor 220 daily mouthwash and Colgate Neutrafluor 500 toothpaste by your dentist. For patients with gum disease you might be recommended to use curasept mouth wash and toothpaste by your dentist.
